The drawings in the Bird and Nest Series are an investigation of natural forms. They are a significant departure from my figurative work, and they have proven to be technically challenging for me. The surfaces and structures of these objects rely very heavily on pattern and texture, and this has forced me to engage more intentionally with the marks that I make and to distill the most pertinent visual information.

As an artist, I have always been interested in figurative work. Specifically, I am drawn to informal images that depict the routine movements and motions of our everyday lives, finding a certain honesty and truth in the physicality of these ordinary movements. The Deli Series is an investigation of the individuals who work at a local deli, focusing on the repetitive daily tasks of work, the environment of the deli, and the objects these individuals interact with.

I have always been interested in the body and its ability to communicate, and I am drawn to informal images that depict the routine movements and motions of our everyday lives. The Distilled Intimacy series seeks to document the first months and years of a marital relationship. The process for these paintings begins with video footage of everyday home activities, utilizing outdated VHS equipment. I sift through the video footage and intuitively select out images, which are then translated into photographs and paintings. The use of VHS video and photography create distortions in form, color, lighting and space, and I am interested in the process of translating these formal abstractions through the medium and act of painting.
